Feeling Rejected

You probably feel rejected. Maybe consciously or maybe unconsciously, but I’m willing to bet that there is an area of rejection in your life.

The feeling of rejection is a strong one — it can drive our ambition in all areas of our life. The fear of not being acceptable or that some fault might be found in us is debilitating. It’s no wonder that some of the root causes to human addiction, suffering, anger, hate, depression, etc. are caused by rejection — it’s baked into the world around us and into our DNA.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isaiah 14:12-14

The devil, here referred to as “Lucifer”, wanted to be like God, like the “most High”. He rejected the order and rank that God had established and because of that, now holds rejection as one of his main “axes” to grind. The devil feels like he was the one hurt by God and decieves many people into feeling the same way, feeling anger at God for something God isn’t the cause of. In Ezekiel, it talks about the devil and how he rejected God’s will for him:

You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.
Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
Ezekiel 28:15-17

The devil’s pride caused him to reject God. And so the story of our enemy began.

Well, our story (humanity’s story) begins very clearly in Genesis. And the fall of man displays how rejection is built into our DNA (so to speak) — we are all sons of Adam, right?
Adam’s sin was disobedience to God’s will — Adam rejected God in favor of what Eve offered. Our old man (versus our new man) is “built” just like Adam, with all his flaws inherited.

BUT, in spite of all this rejection around us — we can take solace in knowing that because of Jesus Christ, we will not have to feel rejection. God and Jesus Christ are willing to heal our very hearts. The very deep, emotional, wounded, scared parts of us — those are the parts we can give to God.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10

Get this: God and Jesus Christ are fighting for you. God and Jesus Christ are working by your side to help you have “life, and have it to the full”. They are not about to reject you.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38, 39

There is no rejection in the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. Let God and Jesus Christ heal your heart today. Ask them into your life, to the very specific, dark areas where you fear rejection and cast the rejection off — give it over to them. Find yourself in their presence, with their love all around you. You can do it and they will help.
